Lady Eveshams as played at the Seiners Session Perranporth, Oct 2021

As collected for the Racca Project 1995-97. Originally transcribed by Jon Mills in 1983 from a recording in the BBC Sound Archive made by Richard Dimbleby at Tintagel on 26/01/44. Jon Mills noted “ BBC Sound Archives give the musicians as Harvey Danga and George Walker Fiddles and Mrs Burden Concertina. But make no mention of mandolin which is clearly audible. Concertina seems to be of English variety.” The first part of the tune is a Cornish version of a polka with many variations and a variety of names from “The Heel And Toe”, “Jenny Lind’s” and “Quinn’s Irish”. The Jenny Lind Polka is attributed to a German composer Anton Wallerstein in the 1840’s and commemorated the famous Swedish singer Jenny Lind. It was porbably one of the tunes that took the polka dance around the globe.
