The lyrics originate from a nineteenth century chapbook. They were set to music by Alan Molyneaux and popularised by Mervyn Vincent of Padstow in the 1960s. Since then the song has become a regular part of Cornish singing tradition. Words translated into Cornish by Delia Brotherton and other bards of the Penzance Cornish Language Group, May 2015.
