The 1911 Fraddon Coronation Band Contest was held at Carworgie, St Columb Road, on the 16th September with Mr W Halstead of Queensbury as adjudicator. There were only four bands taking part and The Royal Cornwall Gazette of Thursday the 21st September 1911 reported: “The contest was promoted by the committee of the Fraddon Coronation Band, which was formed at the last Coronation, with a view to clear off the £40 debt on their new instruments. It was a huge success with between two and three thousand people present. The test piece was the beautiful Song Echoes, which brings out to the full the capabilities of each performer. Camborne Town Band, who took the premier honours under Mr W Uren’s baton, chose Apollo for their own choice second test piece and St Dennis Temperance Band, the second prize winners, played Crispano. Liskeard, the third band, selected The Messenger Boy, and this band included reed instruments: the audience enjoyed their rendering. Their conductor was Mr B Honey, who was presented with a horseshoe for luck. Lelant Brass Band were in last place. They chose a simple selection, The New Century. Their day has yet to come, for with only fifteen in the band, including several youngsters, they gave a good all-round performance.”
Specials awards were presented to Camborne Town Band players: E C Wills (cornet), W Blackney (euphonium), and G Rosevear (trombone.
