“Cornwall, this Land for you and me” so begins the first song, which introduces this our fifth record. Arranged for Treviscoe Male Voice Choir by their musical director from an original American tune by W W Guthrie “This Land is my Land” and given new words by Brian Craig (Deputy Musical Director), it expresses the great love for Cornwall by all who inhabit this lovely corner of the British Isles. 0 Peaceful Night — A song painting with words and music the enchantment of night before the coming of dawn, which breaks its magic spell. Speed Your Journey — this chorus from Verdi’s Opera “Nabucco” expresses the deep longing of the Hebrew slaves to return to their homeland. The Legend of Kleinzack from “The Tales of Hoffman”. The poet Hoffman tells the hilarious story of the dwarf Kleinzack to a merry band of students in a crowded winecellar in Nuremberg. In Sheltered Vale — true folksong style it tells the story of a broken vow and a broken heart. Blow me eyes — A meeting of a young sailor and a fisher lass on the seashore with an unexpected ending. In the Gloaming — In this charming arrangement by one of the finest arrangers of music for male voices, Doris Arnold captures the mood of reminiscence of the parting of two lovers. Peers Chorus — this stirring March and Entrance of Peers from Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Iolanthe” surely needs no further introduction and is a firm favourite with many male voice choirs. •
