
George Bown Millet (1842-1896) was a surgeon and Medical Officer of Health for Penzance. He was also an active member of the Royal Geological Society and the Natural History and Antiquarian Society. He had journal articles published on a wide variety of subjects from local and natural history to genealogy.[i] In 1892 he published a booklet called “Cornish Ditties” [ii]comprising of three songs he had composed capturing local stories: The Zennor Mermaid, Paul Church Town and The Mayor of Market Jew . These songs were also included in “Poems of Cornwall by Thirty Cornish Authors” edited by William Herbert Thomas[iii].
