Included in Methodist Hymn Book / Wesley’s Hymns
Dykes, set to three hymns in Wesley’s Hymns (1877) (and not in Wesley’s Hymns of 1780), the hymns are 358 ‘Open Lord my inward ear’, 506 ‘Father of our dying Lord and 618 ‘To the hills I lift my eyes’; Lightfoot p310 reveals written for the original BTB in 1863. Dykes provenance suggests that this may not be a Cornish reference but refers to St Hilary of Poitiers, “the earliest known writer of hymns in the W. Church”. Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, 1997, p769. (Reverend Colin C Short)
