Written for the 1927 West of England Bandsmen’s Festival (Bugle Contest) and relates to the trophy received by the winning band.

Used as a contest test piece including:

1927: West of England Bandsmen’s Festival (Class B)

1999: West of England Bandsmen’s Festival (Class B)

2013: West of England Bandsmen’s Festival (Class C)

William Rimmer (1862-1936) was born in Southport into a musical family. He joined the Southport Rifle band and became their principal cornet soloist before turning to composing.
