Krena
Matthi ab Dewi
Krena (Quaking) was a Cornish language rock/punk band from 2003 to 2007.
Krena was formed in 2003 in Liskeard and played gigs in East Cornwall pubs and events. It also played the Dehwelans Festival in Newquay in 2004 and the PanCeltic Song Contest in Tralee in 2005. The band’s song “Fordh dhe Dalvann” (Road to Tolvaddon) had to go through a tie-break situation after topping the voting alongside Ireland’s entry. The deciding vote was in an envelope which was initially announced as being won by the Irish entry. Seconds later, that was corrected, and Cornwall won for the second time in a row. Cornwall also won the following year for a third time with a different band.
Matthi moved back to West Cornwall in 2005 and a final gig was staged at Helstonbury in June 2006. A new iteration of the line-up was brought together for the PanCeltic again in 2007 in Letterkenny with a song called “Bys penn an bys” (Until the end of the world). This time the band failed to win.
