Wheal Vor was a tin mine about a mile from Breage

1857: Porthleven was crammed. The Wheal Vor Band played at various points during the day, and in the afternoon the Mawgan Band accompanied the children of the Wesleyan school procession round the port – a procession that was enlivened with banners. (12 August 1857 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1858: At 3 p.m., the children, headed by a number of the parishioners, and led by the Wheal Vor Brass Band, having perambulated the village, &c., marched in presence of a large assemblage of the neighbourhood through the gardens .
