1954: Gerry Chandler of St Issey Brass Band recalled. “I was a very green 3rd cornet … and was very excited to be allowed to play at a contest, in fact it was I think, the first time I had played outside the band room. We had a bus from St Issey and stopped for a blow by the old disused German clay building on Goss Moor just before we got to the A 30. I know we got a 2nd and a 3rd I think the 2nd … test piece Spirit of Youth and the hymn tune was Deep Harmony. The adjudicator was Mr W. Scholes from Rushton Temperance.
