Silverwell is a scattered village about two miles from Blackwater
1872: Sunday School Festival. The Deliverance school festival was held on Thursday last, when the teachers and children, after making a circuit of the village, returned to a field kindly lent by Mr. B. Guy, where they were bountifully regaled with tea and cake; much disappointment was caused by the absence of the band engaged for the occasion, which did not make its appearance, a fact far from being creditable to the members of the ‘Silverwell’ Brass Band. (Royal Cornwall Gazette – Saturday 13 July 1872)
This is the only mention of Silverwell Band and even then it was only to say that it didn’t turn up. It’s strange, too. that the word Silverwell is in inverted commas as if it wasn’t its real name. I was raised in Silverwell and find it strange that no one ever mentioned its existence. I could do no other than include it but I have great doubts that it ever existed. (Tony Mansell)
