The Cornwall Brass Band Association was formed in November 1955 and the following year it held its first annual contest. These were held for the next 60 years and at least four have taken place in and around St Austell.
In addition to this series, it held two which were termed the Cornwall Coliseum Contest. These were in 1982 and 1983 but whether they were intended as part of a longer series is not known.
