Contesting
Not all bands enter competitions and there are some which shun the contest stage, preferring to concentrate their efforts in providing music for local events. For most players, though, contesting has always been an important part of brass banding, the reason that they spend so many hours trying to perfect their art. It provides them with the opportunity to test their musical skills against others and, of course, to bring home that silverware.
This section includes brass band contests which have taken place in Cornwall. I doubt that all are here, and there are certainly some results missing, but, over time, it is hoped that it will become a comprehensive record of all Cornish Contests.

Camborne Bible Christian Temperance Society Demonstration Contest
September 1878
Adjudicator:
“Bible Christian Society Camborne. The members of this Society held their annual demonstration, on Monday week: having started from the schoolroom they perambulated the different streets of the town, headed by the fife-and-drum band, and then proceeded to a field at Crane, (kindly lent by Mr. M. Quintrell) where the juvenile members enjoyed themselves with many sports provided for them. Addresses were delivered by various members the Society; and dialogues and recitations were freely given. There was to have been a band contest, but only one band put in its appearance.” (12 September 1878 – Cornishman)
