We are a group of St Ives musicians who come together to lead processions at our town’s community celebrations. We march in fairly formal attire to our renditions of traditional Cornish tunes, often with children dancing and councillors following behind.
We took over this role in 2025 from Bagas Porthia, who had been the civic band for many years under the leadership of Dee Brotherton.
Our name means “Band of the World” in Cornish, reflecting our deep sense of connection with music and culture from everywhere, not just our native St.Ives.
We play a mix of Cornish procession tunes, from the 15th Century classic “Bodmin Riding” to a contemporary composition called “Up’long and Down’long”
In 2025 we brought the tune “Nancledra” (as popularised by Dalla) back to the village school there for its centenary celebrations, at which pupils danced to our bagpipes, whistle, cello and drum.
Last year we also performed twice in the St.Ives September Festival as part of the street entertainment.
In 2026 we will lead the town processions for St.Ives Feast Day, May Day and the Mayor’s Choosing.
