Ilow Splann (Cornish for “Music Splendid”) is a duo consisting of Maggie Willmott and Carlton Crouch that specialises in Cornish music and early music. Maggie plays violin, recorder(s), keyboard and bodhran whilst Carlton plays border pipes, saxophone, recorder(s), cornamusen, (maybe bombarde), guitar and bouzouki. Both Maggie and Carlton sing. The duo is based in South East Cornwall.
Ilow Splann have played numerous dances and concerts. Notable events include Old Cornwall festivities, concerts and functions at Stuart House (Liskeard), an award winning “Tudor Afteroon” at Mary Newman’s Cottage (Saltash) and representing Cornwall at the Lorient Festival Interceltique in 2019.
To date Ilow Splann has produced one cd: “Cornish Music for Dancing and Reflection”. The title of the cd expresses the idea that the duo’s music can be listened to on different levels.
Maggie Willmott has a musical background in teaching and classical violin playing. Carlton Crouch has a musical back ground in jazz, pop, soft rock, punk rock and electronica. It’s hoped that Maggie and Carlton’s different musical backgrounds will lead to some interesting Cornish Music!
