1857: Mawgan Band played at Porthleven Regatta. (John Brush)
1857: Porthleven was crammed. The Wheal Vor Band played at various points during the day, and in the afternoon the Mawgan Band accompanied the children of the Wesleyan schools’ procession round the port – a procession that was enlivened with banners. (12 August 1857 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1867: Launch of the life-boat. This, and the other out-door amusements of the day, being enlivened by some very good music, performed by the St Mawgan Band, who, to show their interest also, offered their services gratuitously. (19 September 1867 – Royal Cornwall Gazette)
1868: The children met in the chapel about three o’clock, and formed a procession, and headed by the Mawgan Brass Band, proceeded to the Rectory, and paraded the grounds of the Rev. P V Robinson and thence to the Lizard Village. (27 June 1868 – Lake’s Falmouth Packet and Cornwall Advertiser)
1870: Mawgan Band played at a Sunday school anniversary in the Lizard. (John Brush)
A late 19th century photo that I have seen shows a band of seven players under Thomas Eplett. (John Brush)
1943: The next discovered reference was when a Mawgan Band played at a garden fete under the direction of a Bandmaster Williams. (John Brush)
