Blight, left the Helston band some time since to take the leadership of Porthleven’s instrumentalists. He may be already congratulated, to judge from the way he conducts the band. After hearing the selections played we should say is first-class leader; and a successful one too; and that deserves all the praise that should encourage him his arduous undertaking. William Smith, Helston, was charged by Richard Orchard, of Porthleven, with giving him a blow in the mouth, and then one the eye, because he cheered the Porthleven band. Helston and Porthleven bands were playing in opposition. Mr. Pengilley, for the defence, explained that Helston’s bandmaster teaches the Porthleven band, and it was in bad taste, indeed provocative, of the latter to intrude their music on the town on Flora day. 1897 – 8th June: Camborne Children’s Day was clearly a huge event as it involved the Wesley and Centenary Wesley Chapels, the Church, the Primitive Methodists, the Bible Christians, the New Connexion, the Salvation Army and the Wesley schools of Beacon and Pengegon and Tuckingmill Church and Wesley Schools. The bands leading the various groups were Camborne Town Band, Helston Band, Porthleven Band, Troon Band, St Erth Band, Illogen Reed and Brass Band and Penzance Salvation Army Band.

1904 “Mr. A. G. Findeisen represented plaintiff. Amos Blight, Porthleven, sued James Hosking, Porthleven, for the return of cornet, euphonium, and clarinet, or their value, £I5, and a sum of 5s. 6d. balance on the sale of an instrument. Mr. A. R. Thomas appeared for prosecutor and Mr. A. E. Ratcliffe for the defendant. Plaintiff, bandmaster the Porthleven band, sued the defendant, who also one time had been bandmaster the band, but on the break-up of the band last Whit-Monday defendant, then a member, detained the instruments with the consent of the other members. Plaintiff had been requested to again lead the band, which he did from September, and was now liable for the amount due to Laffleur and Co., London, for the instruments which Hosking, as bandmaster, purchased, as they had not been paid for. His Honour gave judgment for the return of the instruments, and decided to allow the 5s. 6d., each party to pay their own costs.” (25 February 1904 – Cornishman)
