Newbridge is a hamlet between St Just and Penzance
Considering the comment “for some time” in the next item, the band’s formation date was a few years before 1879.
1879: For some time the deceased was a member the Newbridge Brass Band, and as a mark of respect, the band attended and, heading the mournful procession from the Church to the Cemetery. (31 December 1879 – The Cornish Telegraph)
A photograph (not available here) shows twelve players wearing early 20th century in civilian clothing. (John Brush)
1882: The school and teachers met in the chapel and formed in procession, and headed by the Newbridge Band enjoyed a good walk through Trengwainton grounds. (20 July 1882 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1891: The teachers and children, who made a most respectable appearance, walked as usual, and were headed by the Newbridge Brass Band. (2 July 1891 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1891: From the items here we assume that the players took the Queen’s shilling and became a volunteer military band. (John Brush)
1891: The procession left the chapel, preceded by the Newbridge Artillery Volunteer band, andperambulated the streets and gardens of the town. (30 July 1891 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1893: The Newbridge Band, under the conductorship of Sergeant Newton, rendered very pleasing selection music. (6 April 1893 – The Cornish Telegraph)
1903: The children met in a field adjoining the Chapel, after which they took their usual route, headed by the Newbridge Volunteer Band. (9 July 1903 – Cornishman)
1905: Newbridge Brass Band still active. (John Brush)
1940: He was also drummer in the days of the Newbridge Brass Band. (4 January 1940 – Cornishman)
