“Bugle choir was formed in 1947 and I became a member in 1955. The conductor was the works captain of Rocks Pit. In 1957 the choir was renamed the Eastern Area Male Voice Choir, abbreviated to EAMVC.
The new musical director was Barry Williams for a while until he was replaced by Russel Miners [1987] and Alan Mugford was voted in as deputy musical director. [The accompanist then was Joyce Gibbons].
The choir had several engagements locally and travelled to the Forest of Dean, two tours of Holland, and in the first Holland tour the choir entered a competition and won the first prize. There were also tours to southern Ireland and the Isles of Scilly.
After Russell Miners passed away, Alan was made full time musical director.
I think I am the only founder member of eastern area male voice choir left. Sadly, the choir was dissolved through lack of membership on the appearance of COVID-19.” (M A Mugford)
The choir took part in the 1,000 Voice Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983.
