Philippa Davies’ Music Book: Contents, Context and History by Mike O’Connor and Barbara Griggs
In an old house in the fields above one of Cornwall’s historic tine streams three generations of Cornish family made music. In that house Phillipa Davies and her sister Catherine played spinet, Edward Giddy played his violin, and Davies Gilbert sang Trelawny. The music book of Phillipa Davies was handed down from aunt to niece over three generations: first to Mary Giddy and then to Kitty Gilbert.
In this volume, Mike O’Connor and Barbara Griggs present the books music and introduce its context: that of women’s music-making in Cornwall between 1717 and 1893.
